About Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, known for his genre-defying songwriting, loop-pedal performances, and global chart domination. Born in Halifax, West Yorkshire in 1991, Sheeran began recording music independently in the late 2000s before rising to fame with the release of his debut album + in 2011. His ability to blend folk, R&B, pop, and hip-hop influences made him a commercial and critical phenomenon almost overnight.

Over the last decade, Ed Sheeran has released a sequence of mathematically themed albums — + (2011), x (2014), ÷ (2017), = (2021), and (2023) — each packed with worldwide hits like “Shape of You,” “Thinking Out Loud,” “Perfect,” “Castle on the Hill,” and “Photograph.” Collectively, these records have sold more than 150 million copies globally and earned him multiple Grammy Awards, BRIT Awards, and an MBE for services to music and charity.

Ed is widely recognised for his one-man stage setup, where he uses a loop station to build tracks live on the spot — layering vocals, guitar riffs, and percussion in real time. This innovative style creates the feeling of a full band despite him being solo on stage, and has become a hallmark of his tours, from small club shows to massive stadium performances.

The 2025 *Loop Tour* marks a new chapter in Ed’s career. Supporting his latest album Play, this tour focuses on more intimate venues like Dublin’s 3Arena, shifting from his usual stadium spectacles to closer, more emotionally resonant performances. Fans can expect an updated live setlist featuring tracks from Play like “Sunburnt Letters” and “Gravity Fields,” alongside beloved classics and acoustic deep cuts that highlight his storytelling strength.

Trivia You Might Not Know:

  • “Shape of You” is Spotify’s most-streamed song of all time, with over 3.6 billion plays.
  • Ed Sheeran once performed 32 gigs in 31 days as part of a grassroots tour of the UK before his mainstream breakout.
  • He appeared in HBO’s Game of Thrones Season 7, in a cameo role that divided fans and critics alike.
  • Sheeran’s guitar is nicknamed “Nigel” — he often brings it on stage with custom artwork or slogans drawn by friends and fans.
